GODDESS OF THE FERTILE CRESCENT
We are in the year 2450 BC in ancient Iraq. Two young women backpackers have decided to go on a journey to the city of Uruk in the south of the country.
Rumour has it that a man called Gilgamesh has acquired fame and notoriety, especially among the women. They fear the weakening of their rights and position in society. The two women, Inanna and her friend Ninatta, feel confident that they can work out a cunning plan to thwart Gilgamesh’s rise to power. They have the blessing of Innana’s grandmother Ishtar.
During their voyage they face an attack in the night which leads to a near death experience. They manage to struggle on bravely towards Kish where they make friends with the High Priestess Nin who is willing to help.
ABOUT GRETA
Greta Sykes is a German/English writer and artist. Goddess Of The Fertile Crescent is latest novel. Her first novel Under Charred Skies is a biographical narrative, picturing the lives of her grandmother and mother during the heyday of the Weimar Republic and its tragic end at the start of WW2.
Greta was born in Hamburg but moved to London in her early twenties. She studied art at UCL and holds Doctorate in Educational Psychology from the University of East London. She is also an associate researcher at University College London.
Her art, paintings as well as writings, examine nature and the role of women.
Greta lives and works in Crouch End, London and Levanto, Italy. She has two sons.
